Voice - Progression

Album Overview

Considering that I have not heard much from this artist, or from word of mouth, I did not know what to expect when I received the album. The only other album that I have heard of from him is the Crucible, and I didn't even listen to any samples. When I saw the name of the CD it causes me to think of a track from Trip Lee called "Gotta Grow." This album will cause life introspection which is very much needed in a genre that is not even accepted as valid and of God. If the beats and the look of the CD don't move the youth, the Spirit of God will be present because I know for a fact that He is a part of it. The beats do not catch you at first glance like the more prevalent artists, but this has a nice underground feel that is coming into the mainstream market, which is quite unique, but most people may not recognize as so. Let us get into the significance of any Holy Hip Hop project, the spiritual significance.

Spiritual Significance

The abundance of weight that is put on this album from the Scriptures is progression. You can see this on the first song of the album. The name is "Non-Conformists," which touches on Romans 12:1-2, where Paul speaks of not conforming to the things of this world. This track hits to home for me, because I have certain friends that are conforming to things of this world but still say they love God. Thank God for His forgiveness, for they are not too far gone from coming back to Him. Voice has put a wide range of spirituality while not being of no earthly good, as he also tackles the issue of hip hop and how we focus too much on our failures and instead of our goal in Christ, which is touching to know that he has spoken on this. He has a lot of songs which touch on the epistles of Paul, which have a broad range of topics in the Bible, which he weaves well on this album, like the thorn in the flesh issue. There is much meat on this project, which I suggest you check out.

Topics Covered

The variety of topics covered in this album is of a broad range, yet is compact in what it is trying to convey to the listener. When I first listened to the album, I actually didn't have the taste for it, for the beats were not my taste, but I took a listen and have found so much in it.

A song that was done very beautifully is called "Maybe." This is Voice crying out saying Maybe, just Maybe you can share the gospel, read your Word, etc. This track is a "smooth charge" to get you to do what we are called to do. Not to lay around but share your faith with all. This hits home directly to me, for I have been guilty of this, I pray that we have the zeal of the Lord put upon us. From a charge to the thorn in our flesh, the topics discussed have such a relevancy to each of us. One such song is called "Contemporary Job." By the title you can understand that Voice touches on the fundamental issue to Christianity, suffering. As Job questioned the omniscient sovereignty of the Lord, Voice puts in lyrical form the cries that have been in our hearts from the Psalms to the normal youth. I have wrestled with the exact questions that Voice puts out, and I am excited as I am writing this. I strongly suggest getting this as a gift for someone who is struggling in his faith and show him or her that particular song, and God will bless you.

There are a couple more topics, but you have to buy the CD to find out.
