Tony Stone - The Creation

Album Overview

When I grabbed this album for review I was definitely excited to hear my man T-Stone step away from the keyboard and get behind the mic. Most of you already know him as one of the biggest producers in Holy Hip-Hop, doing work for Braille, Reach Records, and Cross Movement records, k-Drama, and others. However, this is your chance to hear him outside of his instrumentals. The Creation is an intriguing album, weaving a whole bunch of topics together to paint a glorious picture of God the Creator. The album is not solely about Creation, but ties in other subjects that sway the listener to the Creator. In doing so, he proves that with such a wonderful, powerful God, there is no other explanation for why we're here than Creation. This statement opposes the theories of evolution and Darwinism, two deceitful beliefs that keep many science-grounded people from coming to Christ.

Honestly I was impressed with Tony Stone's delivery skills and lyricism. Initially I wasn't too sure how he would sound because I only knew him as the producer. However, he flowed solidly on the project, which was helped out by the frequent features from Braille. A household name to even novices in HHH, Braille featured on 5 songs and makes a great contribution to The Creation in doing so. Also featuring on the album is Verses Mas.

I don't really need to go much into the album's production quality because we are all aware of T-Stone's producing talents. However, I can say that the album carries a great underground sound throughout and has a nice laid back feel to it. Just like his past work, you won't be disappointed with the sounds on The Creation.

Spiritual Significance

Even though this is his debut album, T-Stone does a great job packing solid content into The Creation. At first, I had a feeling the whole album was going to deal with the Creation Theory, but after a few listens I realized that there was a lot more packed into the project's 14 tracks. I encountered a variety of topics, but found they all pointed me back to focus on our Great, Loving, Creator. But wait, all Christian rap albums are about God, right? Yes, but not necessarily in this fashion. This album is firmly focused on the Creator. While some albums deal with living as the Lord called us, spreading the Gospel, etc., The Creation was all about our God, creating a project that had a worship jam type feel to it from beginning to end.

As I spun through the album, I saw that not only did Tony Stone have a diversity of subjects, but he also covered them in the abstract ways you would only expect to see from a veteran emcee. Starting with "Round and Round (Mr. Law)", he personified "Mr. Law" as a police officer and metaphorically explained the law's purpose while warning the listeners against legalism. I hadn't seen a song laid out like this since Lecrae's "Break it Down" off 116 Clique's Thirteen Letters. From here we move on to "D.I.C.E." featuring Braille, a song that takes the problem of gambling and meshes it with the falseness of the Big Bang Theory. He also stabs at the falseness of the theory of evolution on tracks like "We Made It" and "Look How Far" featuring Braille, revealing how God is the Creator and that everything on the earth wasn't the result of an evolutionary process. All said and done, Tony Stone hits at some myths commonly accepted in science today and uses that to point us toward our Creator.
