Hansoul - Jesus Saves!

Album Overview

Jesus Saves. This phrase is probably one of the most well-known proclamations in Christianity. It's up there with John 3:16 signs and the "WWJD?" bracelets. Despite its familiarity, HanSoul did a great job of reemphasizing the message. This double-disc album is focused on one theme: Jesus Saves. With this project, HanSoul is pushing to burn these 2 words into your brain. At the beginning of each track, he says, "Jesus Saves" before the beat drops. For 24 tracks, he puts the Son in the spotlight from various angles. From His love to His strength to His grace, Jesus' infinite greatness is put down in every bar. I was impressed at how HanSoul was able to keep the album from growing repetitive, despite the tightly focused topic.

I also liked the album's sound. There was a good amount of what sounded like hymn samples used for hooks. It gave the album a unique sound that was full of strong emotions, especially on "The Cross." Also, the album has a long list of features, including well known names like Da' T.R.U.T.H., Japhia Life, and J. Johnson. Overall, I thought the album had a good mix of beats and sounds that kept things fresh.

For some reason I feel the need to mention the style of HanSoul's songs. He made multiple songs that were set up as stories. He has a serious knack for wrapping the listener up in it, which gives the song more meaning and emphasis. I may feel this way because I was able to connect with this album. I had been writing a few devotionals the nights previous to starting this review, and they were all centered around the emptiness of the world compared to the infinite satisfaction in Jesus. As I popped in this CD, the songs were very relevant to what I had just been writing, and as a result I was able to relate to this album at a deep level. The songs also tended to be on the longer side, mainly 4 minutes and up, bringing Jesus' countless characteristics to the listener. HanSoul spit well on this album and I'm looking forward to hearing Him rap on other topics.

Spiritual Significance

As the album's title suggests, this project is all about Jesus. His love, praise for Him, our need for Him. You name it, it's there. Every song is packed with the Son.

First off, HanSoul puts a heavy focus on His saving power. He wants his listeners to know that without Jesus, we are nothing and have no reason to live. However, he notes how Jesus performed the ultimate act of love in dying for us, and all believers are now saved and we have a greater life to look to after we leave this world. This one simple fact, that Jesus has saved us and given us a bright afterlife, should be enough to bring us joy for the rest of our lives. Through thick and thin, we have this hope to look to in order to stay encouraged and keep running the race.

On top of this, HanSoul pushes how we have to live our lives 100% for Christ after all He did for us. The least we can do for our Savior, who died a horrible death to save us, even though we were unworthy, is to dedicate our lives to promoting Him and His kingdom. Since what Jesus did was the most pivotal moment in history, we must do our part to make sure everyone has the opportunity to hear about it and believe.
