Album Overview
For most people, Everyday Process is a new group, but that doesn't mean that this emcee duo is not familiar with the microphone or the gospel of Jesus Christ. Both Mac the Doulos and Iz-Real, the members of Everyday Process, are hip-hop veterans who are sold out for the cause of Jesus Christ and reaching the world with the gospel through the medium of hip-hop. Hailing from the holy hip-hop powerhouse of Philly, PA, the crew has previously released a free album titled Truth or Lie Mixtape Vol 1 (which you can freely pick up on our mixtapes page) and this was only a glimpse at what this hip-hop duo had to offer. Recently inking a deal with Cross Movement Records, Everyday Process is ready to let the world know that they need Jesus in their major debut effort titled Everyday Process: The Process of Illumination & Elimination. This is a record full of street savvy and in your face lyricism that seamlessly blends the traditional east coast sound with that of the dirty south. Iz-Real hits hard with his raspy vocals, which is countered perfectly by the less intense vocals of Mac the Doulos. And right alongside the Christ-centered vocals you get a myriad of producers laying down heat, including the beatmaking skills of: Mac the Doulos (who handles the majority), DJ Official, Speedy, Lecrae, 4Sight Sounds, to name a few. Overall, from start to finish, this is that album that you need to get your hands on if you want an album that hits hard and allows you to bump that Jesus music in your stereo.
Spiritual Significance
What's the spiritual significance to this album? I can sum it up in four simple words: they spit the gospel! The name of the album says it all, and the meaning behind it is so deep that it could possibly take a lifetime to preach on. The purpose of this album is to introduce the listener to the reality of Jesus Christ by helping them to become illuminated by the text of the Holy Bible, the living, breathing Word of God; the next part of the album is then to help take them through the process of eliminating those things in their life that we know are not pleasing to the Lord. With the interlude track "Illumination & Elimination," you get a very clear explanation as to the purpose of this project and what they hope is fulfilled by releasing it for public consumption. While bangin' in its beats and lyricism, Iz-Real and Mac the Doulos by no means shy away or become ashamed of the gospel. Their mantra of "holiness first 'til we're under the earth" is felt across the entire album and leaves the listener wanting to walk in the same light.
Topics Covered
There are a myriad of topics covered on the nineteen tracks that encompass this album, and it would be foolish to take up the space to elaborate on each of them. What we can collect from this album is that all of the subject matter is broken down into one of two categories: 1) illumination, or 2) elimination. First and foremost, the objective of this project is to illuminate you to the things of Christ if you are not already a believer; this is where songs like "Give 'em the Gospel," "Build Up," and "The World Needs Jesus" come into play. Each of the songs in this category speak towards an area where of the life of someone who is not a believer and why Everyday Process, as ministers of the gospel, keep pressing to do the things they do. They truly make it their business to make Christ known on this album, as He is truly exemplified and glorified on every track. The second category is that of elimination, where the duo speaks of how to begin to walk in this new light of Christ and put away the things of this world. A few tracks that bring this point home are "Resist the System," "Hey Girl," and "As Real as it Gets;" these tracks all show how we need to change our lives and put away our fleshly desires after coming to Christ.
When putting these together, you get the title of the album Everyday Process, which is both the process of illumination and elimination. Songs like "Shine Bright" and the "Everyday All Day Cypha" really bring the point home about what our lives are supposed to look like when we walk in both illumination and elimination. This is capped off with "The After Party," which speaks of the benefits that will come if we live out our lives for Christ here on the earth. Very hearty subject matter indeed, and it all points you to walk in the Spirit daily, illuminating yourself in the Scriptures and eliminating the ways of the flesh, truly living out "holiness first 'til we're under the earth!"
