Good Person Test

What do you think happens when you die? Do you think you're good enough to go to heaven?

Most people when asked would say that they're a good person and that they're good enough to get to heaven. Well, if you think you're such a good person, why not take a little test to see if you're really a good person? If you're interested, continue reading and answer the following questions:

  1. Have you ever stolen anything in your life, regardless of value?
  2. Have you ever told a lie before in your life?
  3. Have you ever taken God's name in vain, used it lightly, or as a curse word?
  4. Have you honored your parents, never making them upset and having them tell you to do something twice?
  5. Have you ever been really mad at someone?
  6. Have you ever looked at a man or woman with lust?

So, how did you do? If you're like most of us, you answered yes to the majority, if not all, of those questions. Let's look at each question. If you've ever stolen anything that makes you a liar. If you've lied, you're a liar. If you've taken God's name in vain, that's called blasphemy and is very serious in the eyes of God. If you didn't honor your parents, that makes you a disobedient child. If you've ever been mad at someone, the Bible says that you're a murderer at heart. And finally, if you've ever looked at a man/woman with lust, then Jesus says that you've committed adultery in your heart. We've just taken a look at 6 of the 10 Commandments, the Law of God.

So, how will you fair on judgment day when you die and stand before a holy God? Still think you're good enough to get in? You think God is just going to forgive you because your good outweighs your bad, or something else? Well, let's take that line of thought to a court of law and see what happens. Let's say you've raped and murdered a women, and you're standing before the judge. Will the judge let you off the hook simply because you tell him that you're really sorry and will never do it again? What about if you tell him that you only did it once and that you treated every other woman in your life with kindness and that your good to them should outweigh the murder and rape? If the judge is any good, then he can't just let you go, but must punish you for your crimes. And just because you killed or raped somebody one time, you are stuck with the label of murderer and rapist for the rest of your life; you don't have to do it multiple times to become one, just once. In the eyes of God, He sees each of the other offenses the same way. You're a liar, a thief, a blasphemer, murderer at heart, etc. So, as we've stated, if the judge is just then he must punish you for your crimes and cannot let you go just because you say you're sorry. Now, if God is holy and perfect, the greatest judge, how much more must He punish us for our breaking of His Law, especially when we do them over and over again?

Still think you're on your way to heaven? If you're honest with yourself, you're on your way to hell for eternity as punishment for breaking the Laws of God. Now, let's say that the punishment that the judge gives is for you to pay an extremely high amount of money that there is no way in the world that you'd be able to pay (i.e. 100 trillion dollars). But, wait; what if someone that you didn't even know came into the courtroom to pay your fine for you. The law has been fulfilled and you're free to go, and you no longer have to face your punishment. Wouldn't you be eternally grateful to that person? Well guess what? Jesus Christ came to earth, was born of a virgin, lived a perfect and sinless life, and was killed so that we would not have to face an eternity in hell. In other words, the punishment that God is ready to inflict upon us what put on Jesus. He has paid our "fine" and He is ready and willing to apply His sacrifice to our account if we would just do a couple things: 1) repent of our sins, recognizing that we have broken God's law and agreeing that they are wrong, and asking God to forgive us of them, and 2) put our faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, that He is able to forgive our sins, and that what the Bible says about Him is true. It's that simple, repentance and faith. That is how you can be forgiven by God and get into heaven.

None of this makes us a good person, but it's all about what God has done for us through Jesus Christ that we are able to receive eternal life. If we tried to do it on our own, we would fall short every time because none of us can perfectly keep God's laws, as Jesus Christ was the only one that ever could. And because of what He so graciously did for us, we then choose to live our lives for Him, not only because we are commanded to, but because we want to out of love and adoration for Him, as a way of thanking Him for giving us such a great gift, the greatest gift.

If this makes sense to you and you realize that you're not a good person, then I would urge you to spend some time today to think about your sins, looking at all the sins you've committed over the course of your life. Just when it gets to the point of scaring you or driving you to tears, that is when you look at God and what Jesus Christ did, asking God to forgive you of your sins. Repent of your sins, choosing to turn from them, and then put your faith in Jesus, believing all that the Bible says about Him and believing that He can forgive you of your sins. Then thank Him for forgiving you and begin to live your life for Him as a means of thanking Him for such a great gift. Then get a Bible if you don't already have one, read it daily, and do what it says.

If you've done this, we would love to hear from you. So, please go to our contact page and choose the option "I Just Took the Good Person Test" and tell us all about it. That way, we can pray for you and continue to keep you in prayer. Now, go serve your King!
